Journey to Healing
Survivors commonly experience post-traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety, making it difficult to maintain overall wellness and build healthier relationships. Without counseling, survivors are 12 times more likely to re-experience abuse within six months after leaving a shelter program. (National Resource Center on Domestic Violence).
Through a partnership with the University of Nevada, Reno’s Community Behavioral Health Collaborative, we break the cycle of domestic violence and provide survivors the support they need. We provide free and ongoing trauma-informed counseling and a safe space to address complex traumas, improve coping strategies, and rebuild self-confidence toward a thriving future.
Community Behavioral Health Collaborative
The Domestic Violence Resource Center has two in-house practicum student counselors equipped with the latest tools to support our clients through their healing journey. Under the guidance of a qualified supervisor, masters and doctoral level counseling interns from the University of Nevada, Reno begin their practice at non-profit human services agencies to increase access to mental health services while securing future behavioral health professionals to serve the needs of our community.
Meet Argent
Argent was motivated by the positive changes she saw in others through simply listening without judgment. As a licensed therapist, she hopes to inspire those going through a challenging time to find their voice as well as encourage the community to support organizations that create spaces for survivors to heal.
Meet Moyses
Previously a youth probation officer for 20 years, Moyses has seen the patterns of intergenerational trauma, adverse childhood experiences, and cultural and societal pressures. He pursued an education in family and marriage counseling with the mission to break the cycle and provide therapy for parents and families.
