TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Kicks Off Movers for Moms® Drive to Help Mothers in Need This Mother’s Day

Community-Supported Program Aids Moms in Crisis

RENO, NV – Though Mother’s Day is intended to be a joyous occasion for women across the country, thousands of moms will be overlooked on this special holiday because they are forced to live in shelters, or worse, as a result of domestic abuse. Every spring since 2012, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations across the U.S. have collected donations for local women’s and family shelters for delivery around Mother’s Day. This year will mark the 17th year for the Movers for Moms® program and the 10th year it has been a national program; this will be the 2nd year for the Reno, NV location to participate.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Reno will host the local Movers for Moms® collection drive from April 22 through May 6, 2024 to provide critical gifts to local individuals who are relying on the Domestic Violence Resource Center located at 1735 Vassar Street in Reno. Movers for Moms® Collection Boxes will be placed at 25 locations throughout Reno and Sparks so that the community can donate hygiene items and grab-and-go, non-perishable foods. Each box will have a flyer affixed to it that details what items are needed. The flyer will also have a QR code that links directly to the Center’s Amazon Wish List so that donations can also be made easily that way.

Last year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Reno collected over 3,600 items for the Domestic Violence Resource Center and this year the hope is to double that amount. New partner drop-off locations have been added this year to make it easy for the community to participate. Community partners include: Greater Nevada Credit Union, Reno Sport & Spine, Reno Running Company, Bone-ito, Heritage Bank, Orangetheory Fitness, Renown Hospital, Bridge Church, and Summit Funding.

The Domestic Violence Resource Center (formerly Committee to Aid Abused Women) was founded in 1977 as the state’s first provider of support and services for domestic violence victims and their children. The Domestic Violence Resource Center’s mission statement is to, “Rebuild safe and hopeful lives for victims of family violence.” The organization’s philosophy is centered around believing that every individual has the right to live a life free of violence. The purpose is to use empowerment and self-help models to help their clients lead safe and independent lives. Today, the Domestic Violence Resource Center provides the region’s most comprehensive range of services for victims including emergency shelter, an extensive transitional housing program featuring 19 transitional housing units, financial coaching for residents, and is Northern Nevada’s exclusive domestic violence partner with Noah’s Animal House.
