DV Resource Ctr. Supporter Spotlight

 In News

Dear Friends,

We’d like to take this opportunity to shine a light on some of the amazing contributions we’ve received recently from generous members of our community. Supporters make a direct impact in the lives of individuals who are struggling to leave, individuals who have escaped, and individuals who are rebuilding their lives after enduring domestic violence. Domestic Violence Resource Center supporters are unique because many have been personally affected by domestic violence, we value and respect your decision to help domestic violence survivors overcome extreme circumstances and build peaceful futures.

Thank you to the NV Energy Foundation for its continued support of domestic violence survivors and their children. We are so fortunate to receive a $20,000 NV Energy grant to help us continue to provide support and services that survivors depend on like financial literacy, professional counseling assistance, emergency shelter, and more. The Domestic Violence Resource Center has received support from NV Energy for more than 34 years. NV Energy is committed to connecting with the community through philanthropic efforts for the public good. We greatly appreciate NV Energy’s care and concern to help make our community a better place to live and work.

The Domestic Violence Resource Center is grateful to have received a $1,000 gift in December 2021, from the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem (SOSJ), Knights Hospitaller, Commandery of the Sierras. This gift supports our Emergency Shelter facility, which operates at full capacity 90% of the time, so as you might imagine the wear and tear on this facility is significant – especially the kitchen and bedrooms. This gift allows us to purchase new kitchen gadgets, supplies, and linens, helping the organization continue to provide safe and healthy living environments for the many individuals and families served through the Shelter program each year. The SOSJ Commandery of the Sierra’s continues its more than 900 years of helping the sick and the poor of all nationalities, races and creeds and most recently, survivors of domestic violence.

Volunteers support every aspect of the organization from providing advocacy and support through the 24-hour crisis hotline, to organizing donations for the donation room and performing clean-up activities at our four facilities. The donation room at our administrative facility experiences a high volume of incoming donations that are offered to domestic violence survivors and their children at no cost. Large quantities of groceries, cleaning supplies, clothing, small household items, hand sanitizer and more are available to our clients to meet their needs. Volunteers help the organization maintain and organize all of the items that we offer to victim-survivors. Recently, we were fortunate to have some of our dedicated volunteers build shelving to help keep us organized. We are immensely grateful for our committed volunteers!

We are very fortunate to be a part of such a giving community that helps sustain our life-saving and life-changing programming.

With much gratitude,

Malena S. Raymond
Interim Executive Director
