Community rallies around domestic violence survivors

 In Events, News

The staff and the board of the Domestic Violence Resource Center would like to express our thanks to all of our very generous supporters over the past year. It has been incredibly heartening to hear from so many of you: the phone calls, emails and notes expressing your support of our work during this very challenging time are greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to reach out even as you all are also experiencing so many challenges, worries and disappointments during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Specifically, we’d like to highlight three new partnerships that have been made to further resources for those the organization serves.

We commend Noble Pie Pizza Parlor for feeding vulnerable populations in our community through its “Noble” gesture initiative. This initiative is a collaboration between Peas & Love and Noble Pie Parlor to feed more than 2,300 individuals. The 50 Domestic Violence Resource Center clients who received hot, healthy, individually wrapped meals thank everyone involved in this “Noble” gesture. Channel 2 featured this story, click the link to watch it now:

A big thank you to Russell Cellular! Every December, Russell Cellular partners with a charity for its annual #RCGivesback initiative. This month Russell Cellular will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sales of RC Cares Products, a special line of Pop Sockets and Tech Wipes, that are sold in all of their retail locations throughout the Western U.S. The company’s goal is to secure $10,000 for the organization. We appreciate Russell Cellular’ s commitment to give back to the community and for raising awareness of the issue of domestic violence.
Thank you to Moms Demand Action NV, a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence for partnering with the Domestic Violence Resource Center to raise awareness about this issue in November.

Did you know that national studies show that when there is a handgun present in a household where domestic violence is occurring, the chances of someone being killed increases 500%? Domestic violence and guns are a deadly and all too common combination. Sadly, most mass shootings in the U.S. are related to domestic or family violence.

We appreciate Moms Demand Action NV’s donations of much needed items to benefit our residential clients. We continue to seek community support for holiday items, especially gift cards to Target or Wal-Mart (no more than $25 each please). Please also check out our wish list below for other contribution ideas, we kindly ask that all of the items be new. Given that our office is closed to the general public to reduce potential COVID-19 exposure concerns we ask you to make an appointment to drop off donations, call us at 775.329.4150.
